When doctors told Halima she was expecting multiple babies, she could hardly believe it. At first, they mentioned triplets; later, an ultrasound revealed five babies; and finally, the incredible news arrived: there were nine!
In 2021, Halima Cissé gave birth to five girls and four boys, becoming the central figure in a story that astonished the world. The babies were born prematurely—around the 30th week of pregnancy—weighing between approximately 500 and 1,000 grams. They were immediately transferred to intensive care, where doctors and nurses monitored their progress day and night.
The first few weeks were particularly challenging. They required frequent feedings, special formula, incubators, and constant medical attention. The family went through about 100 diapers and six liters of formula a day. Despite the difficult start and initial uncertainty, all nine babies survived.
Today, they are four years old and are growing into healthy, energetic children. Their story continues to amaze, especially given that all nine siblings managed to overcome the challenges of their premature birth.
To celebrate their fourth birthday, the family organized a big party at a hotel in Bamako. When the nine little ones entered, dressed for the occasion, many of the guests could not hold back their tears.
