Country singer Toby Keith, currently fighting stomach cancer, expressed his regret in a video for being unable to accept a lifetime achievement award at The SabesWings’ Second Annual Strike Out Fundraiser. Keith’s fans rallied behind him after the video’s release. Although he couldn’t attend the event in Paso Robles, California, he accepted the award through a video message, expressing gratitude and apologizing for his absence.
Keith acknowledged the criteria used by former MLB all-star Bret Saberhagen and his wife Kandace in selecting award recipients, which included making a difference in the lives of others and collaborating with organizations sharing the same goals. The event successfully raised $1,046,000 for the SabesWings charity, which assists cancer patients with their medical expenses.
Keith discussed the partnership between his foundation and SabesWings, highlighting the OK Kids Korral in Oklahoma City, which provides support and accommodation for children with cancer and their families. Keith’s video received an outpouring of support from fans in the comments section, with many offering prayers and sharing their own experiences with cancer.
Keith was diagnosed with stomach cancer in June, and while he estimated having only a few months to live, he has undergone chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. Though concerns about his ability to travel persist, his fans’ unwavering support during this challenging time is uplifting. Prayers are requested for Keith’s ongoing battle against cancer.
