A week before Mother’s Day, an eight-year-old boy named Randy died unexpectedly at school. His mother was devastated, but one detail continued to bother her: Randy’s beloved red Spider-Man backpack had disappeared after the ambulance took him away.
On Mother’s Day morning, a young girl named Sarah arrived at her door carrying the missing backpack. She explained that Randy had been her best friend and had asked her to protect it until Mother’s Day.
Inside, Randy’s mother discovered a half-finished handmade unicorn, a Mother’s Day card, and a note apologizing for supposedly ruining a school display. Sarah revealed that Randy had been wrongly blamed for the damage and had been afraid his mother would be disappointed in him.
She also revealed something heartbreaking: shortly before collapsing, Randy had complained that his chest felt “squished” again. He had hidden his pain because he didn’t want to worry his mother.
