Something unusual is happening as thousands of people prepare to gather for a major event in Italy.
Authorities have spent days putting an extensive security operation into place, with police, firefighters, medical teams, civil-protection volunteers and other emergency services all working together.
The reason is not an ordinary public gathering.
A major religious celebration is expected to draw large crowds, while several important political and institutional figures are also due to attend. Authorities have established a dedicated operations center to continuously monitor the situation, manage the movement of people and respond quickly if an emergency occurs.
The heightened preparations come at a time when Italian authorities are also strengthening security measures for upcoming demonstrations planned across the country.
But there is one detail that makes this particular operation stand out.
The event is taking place in Assisi, where President Sergio Mattarella is scheduled to attend the October 4 celebrations honoring Saint Francis of Assisi.
Officials have emphasized that the measures are designed to ensure the celebrations take place safely, not that a specific attack has been announced.
