With control of the U.S. Senate hanging in the balance, several Republican candidates are gaining ground in closely watched races just days before the November 3 midterms.
Recent polls show narrow GOP leads in Texas, Kansas, Iowa, Michigan and Ohio, although other surveys continue to show Democrats ahead in some of these contests.
In Texas, Republican Ken Paxton leads Democrat James Talarico 49% to 48% in an InsiderAdvantage poll, while a CBS News survey puts Talarico ahead 51% to 49%.
Kansas is also extremely close, with Republican incumbent Roger Marshall holding a 48%-47% advantage over Adam Hamilton.
In Iowa, Republican Ashley Hinson leads Josh Turek in several recent surveys, while other polls show the Democrat narrowly ahead.
Ohio remains competitive, with some surveys favoring Republican Jon Husted and others showing Democrat Sherrod Brown leading.
Michigan polling has also given Republican Mike Rogers a slight advantage over Abdul El-Sayed.
With Republicans currently holding a 53-47 Senate majority, these tight contests could play an important role in determining the chamber’s future control.
