On her first day in prison, a 78-year-old woman became the target of three feared inmates who thought she would be an easy victim. They took her belongings, mocked her, and began attacking her while everyone else stood by in fear.
The elderly woman was frail, hard of hearing, and carried only a small bag containing a few personal items. Among them were photographs, an old scarf, and a small box.
The prison’s most intimidating inmate, known as Razor, blocked her path in the yard and demanded the bag. When the woman refused, Razor ripped it away and threw everything onto the ground.
The situation quickly turned violent. The elderly woman was pushed, slapped, and knocked down repeatedly. She begged them to stop, but nobody dared interfere.
Nobody—except a quiet young inmate who had spent months keeping to herself.
When she saw Razor raise her hand again, the young woman stood up.
“Leave her alone.”
The entire yard went silent.
Razor tried to intimidate her, but the young woman calmly stepped between them and helped the elderly woman up. When Razor grabbed her, she quickly freed herself and pushed her back.
For once, Razor said nothing.
Afterward, the young woman collected the scattered belongings and returned the bag.
“Now you’ll have problems because of me,” the elderly woman whispered.
The young woman smiled faintly.
“I already have problems anyway.”
From that day forward, the two women were rarely seen apart.
