Theresia Fischer, a model and reality TV star from Germany, decided to undergo a leg-lengthening surgery to increase her height.
Originally 5’6” (about two inches taller than the average American woman), she wanted to be even taller. At 24 years old, she chose a surgical procedure that eventually made her over six feet tall.
The surgery involved inserting special telescopic rods into her shins. These rods could be gradually extended to lengthen her legs over time.
The procedure wasn’t just expensive—it cost Fischer more than $160,000—but it also had serious physical consequences. She ended up with a painful and chronic bone condition called periosteum inflammation.
Periosteum inflammation affects the connective tissue surrounding the bones. It can cause symptoms like bone tenderness, stiffness, fever, chills, and swelling around the affected area.
For Fischer, this condition has been a constant reminder of her difficult decision. She has expressed her hope for the day when the rods in her legs can finally be removed.
Fischer revealed that an ex-boyfriend influenced her decision to have the surgery. He had suggested that he would “really like” her to be taller. Looking back, Fischer admitted feeling ashamed for agreeing to the operation.
She said, “I am ashamed because I consented to an operation that shouldn’t have happened.” She also mentioned that before this, she had always been happy with her body.
Despite the struggles, Fischer has continued with her career. She participated in the reality TV show “Battle of the Reality Stars” and had earlier appearances on “Germany’s Next Top Model” and “Celebrity Big Brother.”
On social media, she often shares insights into her personal life, including photos with her partner, Stefan, and her parents.
In one of her posts, Fischer talked about how her dream of being a complete family finally came true. She acknowledged the tough times her family had been through in recent years and expressed deep gratitude for their support.
She described her relationship with Stefan in loving terms, calling him empathetic, respectful, intelligent, and warm-hearted. She said they enrich and complement each other every day.
