Woman Died In Head-On Collision Seconds After Uploading Facebook Status

A tragic incident highlighted the dangers of distracted driving. On the morning of April 24, 32-year-old Courtney Sanford was driving on a US highway.

At 8:33 am, she posted a Facebook status saying, “The happy song makes me so HAPPY.” Just one minute later, at 8:34 am, police received reports of a severe crash.

Courtney’s car had crossed the central reservation and collided head-on with a recycling truck, causing her vehicle to burst into flames.

Sadly, she did not survive the crash. The driver of the recycling truck, 73-year-old John Wallace Thompson, was not injured.

Authorities investigated the accident and found no evidence of alcohol, drugs, or speeding. Instead, the cause of the crash was clear: Courtney was distracted by her phone. Lt.

Chris Weisner from the High Point Police Department emphasized the lesson from this tragic event: “In a matter of seconds, a life was over just so she could notify some friends that she was happy. It’s really not worth it.”

The message here is clear and timeless: when driving, give your full attention to the road. Distracted driving is not just about personal safety but also about the safety of others.
