Eminem’s daughter, Hailie Jade, recently shared her emotional reaction to her father’s new music. On her podcast, “Just a Little Shady,” Hailie talked about how hard it is for her to listen to some of the songs on Eminem’s new album, “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).” One song in particular, “Somebody Save Me,” featuring Jelly Roll, made a deep impact on her.
Hailie admitted that she watched the music video for the song once, but found it too emotional to watch again. She said that every time she hears the song, she cries. Even when her co-host Brittany played a short snippet of it on the podcast, Hailie asked her to turn it down because it was too overwhelming.
The reason these songs are so emotional for Hailie is that they deal with very personal and painful topics. Eminem opens up about his struggles with addiction and the difficulties he faced as a father. In “Somebody Save Me,” he apologizes to his three children, including Hailie, for not being there during important moments in their lives. In one verse, he expresses regret for missing significant events like Hailie’s first guitar recital and the birth of her first child. He talks about how he put drugs above his family and how much he regrets it.
Another song on the album, “Temporary,” also brings Hailie to tears. Eminem wrote this song specifically for her and even included recordings of Hailie as a toddler. Hailie said that she sobbed when she listened to the song, especially because it brought back memories of her childhood.
Although these songs are difficult for Hailie to listen to, they also make her appreciate how well her parents raised her and her siblings. She said that, as a child, she didn’t realize how tough things were. But now, looking back as an adult, she understands how serious the situation was. Hailie expressed empathy for anyone who has lost a loved one to addiction, saying that these songs made her think deeply about how close her family came to such a loss.
