Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are moving to a new home. The news came from Kensington Palace, announcing that the royal couple will relocate from London to the countryside.
They are preparing for the birth of their first child by moving to Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Estate early next year. Until now, they have lived in Nottingham Cottage since getting engaged in December last year.
Harry and Meghan find Windsor special and are happy to make their official home on the estate grounds. Kensington Palace will continue to be the official residence of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Frogmore Cottage, their new home, was a gift from Queen Elizabeth II. It is located in the Royal Borough of Windsor. Darren McGrady, a former royal chef who lived nearby, shared some insights about the cottage.
He explained that Frogmore Cottage was originally divided into five separate homes. These homes were used for staff housing and managed by Crown properties, which meant they were maintained with government funds and without much extravagance.
The location is beautiful, being in the Queen’s backyard, but the buildings themselves were quite run-down. If something needed repair, it was only patched up and not replaced. McGrady noted that the staff quarters were never very luxurious, and transforming them into a royal residence would require a lot of work.
McGrady is confident that Frogmore Cottage will be restored to its former glory for Harry and Meghan. He believes many changes will be necessary, such as adding multiple bedrooms and other features like drawing rooms, sitting rooms, and even a gym.
