Bennett Kaspar-Williams, 37, had a baby named Hudson in October 2020, even though he identifies as a man. He was upset because nurses at the hospital called him “mom” instead of “dad.”
Bennett started transitioning to become a man in 2014, but he didn’t change his lower body. Having a baby was both good and hard for Bennett because the nurses didn’t recognize his gender and kept calling him “mom.”
Even though Bennett told the hospital staff he was a man, they kept getting it wrong. After Hudson was born, Bennett talked about how uncomfortable it was to be called “mom” when he’s actually a man.
He said it’s important to understand that not all women can have babies and not all people who have babies are women.
Bennett and his husband wanted a baby, so they decided to have one without thinking about gender stereotypes.
