Children often do not realize how dangerous some online trends can be. Sadly, this lack of awareness led to the tragic death of an innocent 11-year-old boy named Tommie-Lee Billington.
This heartbreaking event happened during a sleepover at a friend’s house. Tommie saw a challenge on TikTok that involved inhaling harmful gases or solvents to get high. When he tried it, his heart stopped immediately, and he passed away.
Unfortunately, Tommie’s death is not the only one linked to this dangerous TikTok challenge. Two teenage girls also died after attempting the same risky activity. It’s crucial to spread the word about these life-threatening trends and take steps to protect our children.
Tommie’s mother, Sherry, is now warning other parents about the dangers of social media challenges. She shared her pain on Facebook, urging parents to talk to their children and discourage them from trying risky behaviors they see online. In her heartfelt post, she wrote, “This cost my son his life from trying something other kids are doing. Please talk to your children about the consequences of this. It is beyond me why anyone would even try this! It’s so dangerous!”
Sherry continues to express her sorrow and is determined to honor Tommie’s memory by raising awareness. She hopes to prevent other families from experiencing the same tragedy. It’s important for all of us to support Tommie’s family during this difficult time and work together to make sure no other child is harmed by such dangerous trends.
