Sia Chie Herng, a 33-year-old man from Sibu, Malaysia, had a shocking experience that required 20 rescuers to come to his aid.
For the past 10 years, Sia had been eating up to 30 bowls of spicy noodles every day. In addition to the noodles, he often indulged in milkshakes and plates of ice cream, leading to significant weight gain. Over time, his health deteriorated, and he eventually weighed 320 kilograms (about 705 pounds).
Sia lived in a small family home with his two older brothers. Despite his size, he was able to move around slowly with the help of a walking frame. However, over a weekend, his condition worsened.
He started experiencing chest pains and became immobile, spending four days confined to his bed. His family became concerned and called for help.
On Tuesday, the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call. Assistant director of operations, Farhan Sufyan Borhan, explained that when they arrived, Sia was lying in the living room, unable to move.
Due to his size, the ambulance was too small to transport him. The rescuers had to use a large wooden board and a thick cloth to lift him. They carefully carried him out of the house, a process that took more than 30 minutes, and placed him in a five-ton truck.
Transporting Sia to the hospital required significant effort, as the situation was unusual for the rescue team. Nevertheless, they managed to complete the task successfully.
The truck reached the hospital around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, where Sia was admitted for treatment. Doctors diagnosed him with swelling in his legs and began assessing his overall health.
Sia’s mother expressed her concern, noting that he had been able to move with assistance before but had become completely bedridden in recent days.
His friend, Afiq Mayang, shared that Sia had a kind personality and enjoyed watching sports and movies but had a strong weakness for food.
Afiq revealed that Sia could eat up to 30 bowls of noodles in one day, followed by ice cream and milkshakes.
Everyone around Sia is hoping for his recovery, wishing that he can regain his mobility and improve his health soon.
