“It was some crazy woman asking if the coast was clear.”
The husband stared at her in disbelief for a moment, then burst into laughter. It took his wife a second to understand what had just happened, but when she did, she couldn’t help but laugh too.
The situation was so ridiculous that they couldn’t stop chuckling. It was the middle of the night, and some stranger had called, clearly mistaking their number for someone else’s. But instead of realizing it was a wrong number, the wife had taken the question literally.
Still giggling, the husband shook his head. “You really told her it’s 200 miles away?”
“Well, how was I supposed to know what she meant?” the wife defended herself, trying to suppress her own laughter. “She asked if the coast was clear, and we don’t even live near the ocean!”
By now, both of them were wide awake, still amused by the absurdity of the call. The husband wiped a tear from his eye and said, “I bet she wasn’t asking about the beach, honey.”
The wife thought for a second, and suddenly, her eyes widened. “Ohhh… you mean—?”
“Yep,” the husband nodded, still grinning. “Sounds like someone was trying to sneak around and needed to know if the coast was clear. But instead, she got you telling her it’s 200 miles away!”
The realization made them laugh even harder. The wife buried her face in a pillow, embarrassed but also highly entertained.
Somewhere out there, a very confused woman was probably wondering what in the world had just happened. And for the couple, this would be a midnight memory they would never forget.
