Tragic news has emerged from Hollywood as it is reported that actor Treat Williams, renowned for his role in Hair and other notable works, has passed away at the age of 71. The devastating news was confirmed by his longtime agent Barry McPherson, who revealed that Williams died as a result of a motorcycle accident.
According to McPherson’s statement to People magazine, the accident occurred when a car cut Williams off while he was making a turn. The agent expressed his devastation over the loss, describing Williams as a talented and kind-hearted individual who was highly regarded by filmmakers and had been a significant presence in Hollywood since the late 1970s.
The tragic incident took place in Dorset, Vermont, on June 12, at approximately 5 pm. Jacob Gribble, the fire chief of Dorset, shared that the accident involved Williams’ motorcycle and a single car.
Unfortunately, Williams was the only one injured and was airlifted to a hospital in New York, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.
While Williams had an illustrious career spanning almost five decades, he had recently become known for his appearances in Christmas projects on Netflix and Hallmark. In light of his passing, many of his co-stars have taken to social media to share their heartfelt tributes.
One such tribute came from Matt Bomer, who expressed his deep admiration for Williams as both an actor and a person. Bomer recounted the privilege of working with Williams on the show White Collar, describing him as a treasure who made each day on set a joy. Bomer also highlighted Williams’ kindness and ongoing support, even years after their collaboration. The actor concluded by expressing his gratitude for having known Williams and extended his condolences to his wife and children.
Williams is survived by his wife, Pam Van Sant, and their two children, Gill and Ellie. The tragic loss has left a void in the hearts of his loved ones and the entertainment industry.
