On November 15, 2024, the Parton family faced a heartbreaking loss as David Parton, Dolly Parton’s brother, passed away at the age of 82.
He died peacefully at his home in White Pine, Tennessee, surrounded by love and leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories. The news was shared by his sister, Stella Parton, on Twitter, where she expressed comfort in knowing that David’s passing was peaceful. Dolly Parton has not yet made a public statement about her brother’s death.
David lived a full and meaningful life. He had a long career as a bridge-building superintendent for Simpson Construction.
Through his work, he played an important role in building infrastructure in Tennessee, including projects in Kingsport, Johnson City, and Knoxville. His dedication to his profession left a lasting impact on the region and earned him great respect as a hardworking man.
Despite the losses he endured over the years, including the passing of his infant son Donnie, his parents Robert and Avie, three brothers (Larry, Floyd, and Randy), his niece Tever, and several in-laws, David remained a pillar of love and support for his family. He was known for his warmth, kindness, and generosity.
David is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kay Parton, and their daughters, Donna and Dena. He also leaves behind a nephew who was like a son to him, Lucas Townsend, along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His surviving siblings include Dolly and their sisters Stella, Denver, Bobby, Willadene, Cassie, Freida, and Rachel.
The family organized a funeral service for David at Leadvale Baptist Church in White Pine, Tennessee, on November 19, 2024. A visitation was held at 5 p.m., followed by a burial at Dandridge Memorial Gardens the next day.
In this time of loss, the Parton family expressed their gratitude to Dr. David McNabney, Smoky Mountain Home Health & Hospice, and the caregivers who helped David during his final days.
While saying their final goodbye, the family takes comfort in remembering the love David shared and the lasting memories he created. His life touched many, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
