Biden Administration Agrees To Stop Selling Materials For Border Wall

The Biden administration has decided to stop selling materials that were meant for building the Southern border wall.

This decision is seen as a win for President-elect Donald Trump, who has made completing the border wall a major goal.

The announcement came shortly before Trump’s upcoming inauguration and followed a court order requiring the administration to spend funds allocated for the wall’s construction.

During Trump’s previous time in office, efforts to build the wall faced challenges from Democrats and some Republicans. However, with renewed voter support, Trump has prioritized finishing the wall.

The decision to halt the sale of materials came after Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton raised concerns in federal court. Paxton questioned whether the Biden administration was illegally selling these materials at very low prices, which could undermine border security efforts.

Paxton’s office announced a legal victory, stating that the Biden administration agreed to stop selling the materials for at least 30 days.

This pause ensures that the materials will be available for Trump’s border wall plans once he takes office. The court also required the administration to provide documentation proving compliance with an earlier injunction.

This injunction, issued in May 2024, mandated that funds meant for the border wall could not be redirected to other uses. If the administration is found to have violated this order by selling materials improperly, legal consequences, including contempt of court, could follow.

In addition to Paxton’s efforts, Trump himself filed a legal document, known as an amicus brief, to support stopping the sale of border wall materials. This brief, submitted to a federal court, accused the Biden administration of possibly engaging in criminal behavior by selling the materials at a significant financial loss to the government.

The sales, which had reportedly been occurring for months, were exposed by a report from The Daily Wire. Trump’s filing argued that these actions were part of an effort to obstruct his administration’s border security plans and may constitute fraud against the United States.

Both Texas and Missouri have pushed to ensure that the materials and funds for the wall are used as originally intended.
