Two blonde men were driving a pickup truck and pulled into a lumberyard. One of the men walked into the office and said, “We need some four-by-twos.” The clerk behind the counter looked a bit confused and replied, “Do you mean two-by-fours?”
The man scratched his head and said, “I’ll go check,” then walked back to the truck to ask his friend. A minute later, he returned and confirmed, “Yeah, I meant two-by-fours.”
The clerk nodded and asked, “Okay, how long do you need them?” The blonde man paused, thinking for a moment, and said, “I’d better go check.”
He walked back to the truck again to discuss with his friend. After a brief conversation, he returned to the office. However, instead of giving a clear answer, he seemed a bit unsure and said, “We need them for a while, I think.”
The clerk, trying to clarify, asked, “No, I mean how long do you need the boards to be?” The blonde man, realizing his mistake, said, “Oh! Let me check,” and went back to the truck once more.
After another discussion, he came back and finally gave the correct answer, telling the clerk the exact length they needed.
The clerk smiled and began processing their order, while the blonde men were relieved to finally get the measurements right.
