Two Killed As Private Jet Overshoots Runway In San Fernando

A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday in San Fernando, a small town in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina.

A private jet overshot the runway while attempting to land at the San Fernando airport. The plane crashed into nearby houses, resulting in the deaths of the two people onboard. The victims were identified as pilot Martín Fernández Loza, 44, and co-pilot Agustín Oforte, 35. Fortunately, no one in the houses was injured as they were unoccupied at the time.

According to local authorities, the aircraft was a Bombardier Challenger 300 with the registration LV-GOK. The plane, known for its reliability, was flying in from Punta del Este, a luxury resort in Uruguay.

Before that, it had traveled from Rio de Janeiro to Buenos Aires. The crash occurred at approximately 1:18 p.m. local time during landing. The initial reports suggest that the brakes may have failed, though this has not been officially confirmed.

After failing to stop on the fifth runway, the aircraft veered off course and collided with homes near the airport. The impact caused a massive explosion and fire, which spread to the surrounding area.

Residents in nearby houses were evacuated as the flames caused widespread damage and panic. Emergency services, including police, firefighters, and medical teams, responded quickly to the scene to manage the disaster.

One neighbor, David Scuarek, described hearing three loud explosions and seeing people running through the streets as the fire raged. “I came out when I heard the explosions,” he told reporters. “There was a lot of fire, and emergency teams arrived shortly after.”

The private jet reportedly belonged to the family of Jorge Brito, a wealthy businessman who owned Banco Macro and was president of the River Plate football club.

While the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, authorities suspect mechanical failure. Firefighters worked hard to extinguish the flames and secure the area.

The incident has deeply affected the local community, with residents and officials alike mourning the loss of the two pilots.
