Lorraine, a mother of two from New York, was shocked to find out she was pregnant, despite having had her Fallopian tubes tied six years earlier.
This procedure is meant to permanently prevent pregnancy by blocking sperm from reaching the ovaries. Both Lorraine and her doctors were puzzled as to how she could have conceived.
Lorraine and her husband had decided they didn’t want more children after having a boy and a girl, so she underwent the procedure to ensure their family was complete.
Speaking to TLC’s Extraordinary Pregnancies, she explained, “I told the doctor, ‘Do what you’ve gotta do. I don’t need any more kids.’” However, against all odds, she became pregnant again, leaving everyone astonished.
Lorraine first suspected something was wrong when she started noticing unusual changes in her body. She visited her mother, Tammy, and said she thought she needed a pregnancy test.
Tammy initially dismissed the idea, believing it was impossible, but encouraged her daughter to take the test just in case. To their surprise, the result came back positive.
Despite the unexpected pregnancy, Lorraine decided to keep the baby, even though her weight made the pregnancy high-risk.
Lorraine has struggled with obesity since she was a child and now has a BMI of over 70, categorizing her as morbidly obese. She admitted, “I’ve always been on the larger side, probably since the second grade.”
Dr. Robert Silverman, Lorraine’s doctor, explained that her pregnancy was especially risky due to her weight, which significantly increased the chances of complications.
Throughout her journey, the TV show followed Lorraine as she went through medical check-ups, scans, and eventually surgery to safely deliver her baby.
In the end, Lorraine gave birth to a healthy baby boy, whom she and her husband named Dallas. Reflecting on the experience, she said, “He’s beautiful.
The pain is worth it to complete our family.” However, Lorraine also made it clear that this would be her last child, stating firmly, “There will be zero more babies for the family.”
