A man recently lost his wife. Since then, he doesn’t get to see his daughter often, but they still talk every day.
On his 80th birthday, the only thing he wanted was to visit her. He decided to drive to her house to surprise her. He was excited and happy as he arrived.
When he knocked on the door, his daughter opened it, but instead of joy, her face looked surprised and a little nervous. “Dad, why are you here?” she asked, her voice sounding uneasy. The man smiled and replied, “I wanted to spend my birthday with you.”
Her expression quickly changed, and she hesitated before speaking. She told him, “Dad, you can’t stay. I’m really busy right now. It’s not a good time.” The man felt hurt but tried to stay positive.
He said, “That’s okay. I’ll wait on the sofa until you’re done.” But she refused and even tried to push him out of the door, saying, “No, Dad, you need to leave.”
Confused and feeling something was wrong, he walked back to his car. But then, he heard some strange noises coming from inside the house.
Worried, he went to the living room window to look inside. What he saw shocked him—two strangers were moving around inside, acting frantically.
His heart started racing. He didn’t understand what was happening or why his daughter was behaving so strangely. He decided to step away and call the police.
When the officers arrived, they carefully entered the house. After a few tense moments, they came out with the two strangers in handcuffs. His daughter followed them, crying and looking very upset.
She ran to him and said, “Dad, I’m so sorry. Those men broke into the house just before you arrived. I didn’t know what to do, and I was trying to protect you.”
The man hugged his daughter tightly, feeling relieved that she was safe. “It’s okay,” he said. “The most important thing is that you’re alright.”
The police took their statements and assured them that the intruders would be punished. After that, the man and his daughter sat on the sofa together, finally spending time as he had hoped.
