Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is reportedly very upset about the recent U.S. presidential election results.
According to a royal commentator, Meghan is so affected that she might even be considering leaving America. Meghan had been hopeful that Kamala Harris would win, but instead, Donald Trump was elected President of the United States. This news reportedly disappointed her deeply, as she has had strong feelings against Trump in the past.
Four years ago, Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, were more vocal about their political opinions. They openly discussed their views and sometimes endorsed certain candidates or causes. However, during this election, they chose to take a different approach.
Instead of openly supporting a candidate, they encouraged people to vote without mentioning any specific names or political parties. Despite their efforts to stay neutral, Meghan is reportedly still very upset by the outcome.
Royal commentator Charlotte Griffiths, who works with the Daily Mail, mentioned on GB News that Meghan “really viscerally disliked” Trump. She has previously called him a misogynist, expressing her disagreement with his views and behavior on television.
Griffiths speculated that Meghan’s dislike for Trump might lead her to consider moving away from America, as she may not be comfortable living in a country with him as president.
In the past, Trump has been critical of Meghan and Harry. He once commented on how they treated Queen Elizabeth and suggested that they shouldn’t receive any special privileges.
In a previous interview with Nigel Farage on GB News, Trump indicated he would not offer Harry any kind of special protection. Trump even hinted that Harry’s history, especially his admission of past drug use, could affect how he is treated under his presidency. Harry openly discussed his drug use in his memoir Spare, which stirred up some controversy.
Griffiths pointed out that Harry recently bought a house in Portugal, which might become useful if they choose to spend time outside the United States. This could provide them an option to distance themselves if Meghan feels uncomfortable with Trump’s leadership.
Eric Trump, Donald Trump’s son, recently told MailOnline that his father “doesn’t give a damn” about Harry, suggesting that Trump might not take any actions against him.
Meanwhile, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams noted that while Harry’s past admissions about drug use were unwise, it’s unlikely that Trump would create a scandal by trying to expel Harry from the country, as it would involve the royal family and could be seen as embarrassing on an international level.
Meghan Markle is reportedly distressed by Trump’s election, which could lead her to consider living outside of the U.S. Given their recent low profile, it remains to be seen how she and Harry will navigate this situation.
