James Darren, the well-loved actor known for his roles in classic films and TV shows, has passed away at the age of 88.

Darren made a lasting impression with his performances in movies like Gidget and television series such as T.J. Hooker and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. His death was reported by TMZ, and according to their report, Darren passed away peacefully in his sleep at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.

Although the exact cause of his death has not been confirmed, Darren’s son, Jim Moret, shared that his father had been dealing with heart issues for some time. Darren was receiving care in the cardiac unit of the hospital before his passing.

He initially went to the hospital to have an aortic valve replacement surgery, but the doctors decided that he wasn’t strong enough for the procedure. He was sent home, but his condition worsened, and he had to return to the hospital.

Jim Moret expressed his deep affection for his father, saying, “I always thought he would pull through because he was so cool. He was always cool.” This touching statement highlights the bond they shared and the admiration Jim had for his father’s strength.

James Darren first rose to fame as a teen sensation when he played the character Moondoggie in the 1959 hit movie Gidget. His charm and talent were so well-received that he returned to play the role in the sequels Gidget Goes Hawaiian and Gidget Goes to Rome.

Darren’s acting career didn’t stop there. He later portrayed the tough and smart police officer Jim Corrigan on the TV show T.J. Hooker, appearing in 66 episodes over four seasons, becoming a fan favorite in the process.
