Six-year-old Lucy Morgan tragically lost her life in a freak accident while her family was on vacation in Limerick, Maine.
The accident occurred while Lucy was watching her family play badminton. During the game, one of the badminton rackets broke during a downward swing. A piece of metal from the handle snapped off and struck Lucy in the head, piercing her skull.
The injury was severe, and Lucy was immediately taken to the nearest hospital. From there, she was airlifted to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where doctors did everything they could to save her.
Lucy’s father, Pastor Jesse Morgan, shared the heartbreaking details on his blog. He explained that although Lucy was unresponsive after the accident, she was still breathing on her own when they arrived at the hospital.
She was rushed into surgery, where doctors removed part of her skull to relieve the pressure caused by the injury. Tragically, Lucy’s condition was critical, and her chances of survival were slim.
Jesse also shared a touching memory of Lucy from just a month before the accident. He wrote that Lucy had asked her mom about being saved and what it meant. After their conversation, Lucy went to her room to pray.
She prayed to God, asking for forgiveness and expressing her belief’ death and resurrection. This memory provided some comfort to Jesse, knowing that Lucy had expressed her faith at such a young age.
In the days following the accident, Jesse continued to provide updates about Lucy’s condition. He wrote about the lack of brain function and how medical staff had informed the family that there was little chance of recovery.
Despite their devastation, the family continued to hope for a miracle, exploring every possible option and getting second opinions. However, Jesse also acknowledged that their beloved daughter was showing all signs of brain death, and they feared she might pass away soon.
On the morning of June 5, Jesse shared the sad news that Lucy had passed away around 4 a.m. He expressed his gratitude for the love and support the family had received, stating that Lucy now “sees God face to face.” The family shared a photo taken during their goodbyes, capturing a moment that was both heart-wrenching and filled with love.
To support the Morgans during this difficult time, friends and loved ones set up a GoFundMe page. The fundraiser, organized by Jill Anthony, aimed to help cover the family’s expenses, including medical bills, meals, and lodging. The campaign exceeded its initial goal of $100,000, raising over $140,000, with the new target set at $150,000.
The family now faces the painful journey of moving forward without their sweetheart.
