Flavor Flav, the famous rapper known for his large clock necklace and sunglasses, has taken on a new role as a supporter of the United States Women’s Water Polo team. Flav, who proudly identifies as a “girl dad,” has become a sponsor and a vocal cheerleader for the team as they compete in the Paris Olympics.
In recent days, Flavor Flav has been spotted in the stands, cheering on the women’s water polo team. He is often seen wearing his signature accessories, including a custom water polo cap. His presence in the audience might seem surprising to some, but the reason behind his support has now been revealed.
According to ESPN, Flavor Flav learned that many members of the women’s water polo team were working multiple jobs to fund their journey to the Olympics. Wanting to help, he decided to offer both financial and emotional support.
He reached out to the team captain, Maggie Steffens, promising to sponsor her and the entire team. He stated that he would use his connections and resources to provide whatever they needed.
Maggie Steffens and her family were initially shocked by Flavor Flav’s involvement. Steffens expressed her surprise and excitement, saying that she couldn’t believe Flavor Flav was now part of the water polo world. As a result of this support, Steffens and Flavor Flav developed a close relationship.
Tragically, Steffens’ sister-in-law, Lulu Conner, passed away while traveling to Paris to watch the games. Lulu was just 26 years old. The exact cause of her death remains unclear, but it was reported that a medical emergency occurred. Lulu was known for her vibrant personality and her ability to bring joy to those around her.
Despite her grief, Steffens decided to continue competing, finding solace in playing. She shared that playing helps her cope and that she tries to embody Lulu’s spirit by giving her best effort, just as Lulu did in everything she pursued.
To honor Lulu, Steffens dropped a bouquet of flowers into the River Seine during the opening ceremony. Flavor Flav also paid tribute to Lulu in his own way, using his iconic clock as a symbol of remembrance. Steffens described Lulu as the “light of the world,” always bringing people together and spreading joy.
