Five years ago, Christie and Wesley Werts married and brought their families together. Christie had a daughter named Megan, and Wesley had two children, Austin and Dakota. Together, they formed a blended and loving family.
Their unique love story took an unexpected turn with the adoption of a baby boy named Levi. The adoption process took 16 months, filled with anticipation and hope, as they eagerly awaited the final approval to bring Levi home.
Born in Texas in August 2021, Levi came into the world under challenging circumstances. His biological mother, who was Wesley’s former partner, struggled with drug addiction during her pregnancy. Sadly, she passed away just four days after Levi was born prematurely at 33 weeks, due to complications from addiction and the coronavirus.
Wesley learned about Levi’s existence through his ex-wife’s sister, who informed him of her passing. Christie, who had her own difficult experiences growing up in foster homes, felt a strong desire to provide Levi with a stable and loving home.
Interestingly, before knowing about Levi, Christie had recurring dreams of a blue-eyed, blond baby. This dream influenced her decision to adopt Levi when she found out about him.
The Werts family traveled from their home in Ohio to Texas to meet Levi through Child Protection Services. When Christie first saw Levi, she was amazed. “When I walked in and saw this blond-haired, blue-eyed baby, I immediately fell in love. It was a very surreal feeling. This was my son,” she said.
The adoption process was not easy. The Werts family had to sell their house in Ohio and move to Texas to be closer to the court proceedings. They faced many legal challenges, including the termination of Levi’s biological father’s parental rights. After 16 months of thorough inspections, interviews, and court appearances, Levi’s adoption was finally approved, and they brought him home.
Despite the heartwarming nature of their story, Christie faced harsh criticism online for sharing it. Some people felt that such a personal story should not be made public. One person commented, “Some things you don’t share on the media, and this is one of them.” However, many others expressed happiness for the Werts family and wished them a wonderful life together.
