Police discovered explosive devices in the vehicle of Thomas Matthew Crooks, the gunman who tried to assassinate former President Donald Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania.
The vehicle was found near the rally in Butler, PA, and sources informed The Wall Street Journal that officials worked late into the night to secure the area before searching Crooks’ family home.
Crooks, a 20-year-old man, had fired several shots from a nearby rooftop. A Secret Service sniper then returned fire, killing Crooks. An AR-style rifle was found at the scene, which had been purchased by Crooks’ father.
Photographs from the incident showed former President Trump with a bloodied right ear, grazed by a bullet. Trump was treated for his ear injury at a Pennsylvania hospital before departing on his private plane, Trump Force One, from Newark Liberty International Airport shortly after midnight.
The attack resulted in the death of one rally attendee and critically injured two others. On Sunday morning, Crooks’ neighbor told The Post that a bomb squad had informed them about reports of explosives at Crooks’ home.
Authorities have not yet disclosed a possible motive for the shooting.
