On July 15, 2024, Bella Brave, a beloved 10-year-old social media star, passed away. Bella’s mother shared the heartbreaking news early that morning. Bella was known for brightening people’s days with her cheerful videos on social media.
Before her passing, Bella had been admitted to the ICU due to a sudden and worsening need for oxygen. Despite numerous tests and biopsies, doctors couldn’t determine the cause of her lung problems. Bella’s mom, Kayla, frequently updated their followers, asking for prayers and sharing small improvements in Bella’s condition.
Bella was born with Hirschsprung’s disease, a rare bowel disorder, and severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID). She had spent over 1,000 days in the hospital and undergone nearly 30 surgeries by the time she was featured in a 2023 interview with People magazine. At that time, Bella was waiting for a bowel transplant, which she knew would significantly improve her quality of life.
In August 2023, Bella received the much-needed bowel transplant. This was a significant milestone, as Bella became the first patient at SickKids hospital in Toronto to receive a bowel transplant following a bone marrow transplant. The family expressed immense gratitude for the donor and encouraged discussions about organ donation to help other children in need of life-saving surgeries.
Despite her courageous battle, Bella’s health deteriorated. Just a day before her passing, Kayla shared an update that Bella was sedated, intubated, and in a medically induced coma. Kayla remained hopeful, though unsure of the outcome.
On July 14, 2024, at 4:19 PM ET, Bella passed away peacefully in her parents’ arms. Kayla confirmed Bella’s passing on TikTok, accompanied by a video of Bella dancing and spreading joy.
In her message, Kayla asked people to keep Bella’s memory alive, share how Bella touched their lives, and remember her bravery. She encouraged everyone to remember Bella’s message of love, bravery, and the importance of holding onto simple joys, like a beloved stuffed animal.
