Ms. Thompson, the teacher, talked to Jimmy after a test. She suspected him of cheating. Jimmy was surprised and asked her to prove it. Ms. Thompson looked at his test. She noticed something interesting. Penny, who sat next to Jimmy, and Jimmy had the same answers.
For example, when asked who the first president was, both Jimmy and Penny wrote ‘George Washington.’ Jimmy argued that it’s common knowledge. Ms. Thompson wasn’t convinced. Then, they were asked about who freed the slaves. Again, both Jimmy and Penny wrote ‘Abraham Lincoln.’ Jimmy claimed he studied the night before.
But Ms. Thompson had one more question up her sleeve. When asked about the president during the Louisiana Purchase, Penny left it blank, and so did Jimmy, writing, “Me neither.”
Jimmy probably thought he could get away with it, but Ms. Thompson caught him red-handed. It’s a funny story, but it teaches a lesson about honesty. Jimmy might think twice before cheating again.
