She signed a lease for a new apartment in her new hometown and managed to secure a job at a local IHOP, drawing from her 25 years of experience in customer service.
Despite her determination, Bethany faced financial constraints, which prevented her from furnishing her new apartment properly. However, her life took an unexpected turn close to the turn of the year.
One day, a celebrity couple entered the IHOP where Bethany was working, sitting in her section. She couldn’t contain her excitement when she recognized the man as none other than Donnie Wahlberg, a member of the popular band New Kids on the Block, which happened to be one of her favorites. She had a special fondness for Donnie himself, and serving him was a thrilling moment in her life.
Little did Bethany know that this encounter would change her life. After enjoying their meal, Donnie Wahlberg, accompanied by his wife Jenny McCarthy, paid a modest bill of $35.27 and left a heartfelt message for Bethany on the receipt. Next to a hand-drawn smiley face, the message read: “Thanks, Bethany, Happy New Year. 2020 Tip Challenge.”
Donnie asked Bethany not to open the receipt until he and his wife had left the IHOP, and when she finally did, she was astounded to discover that the couple had left her and her coworkers an astonishing tip of $2,020.
